Obituary
Peter Lawrence Tivy, 86 of New Smyrna Beach FL passed away Tuesday April 13th, 2021. Born in London, England December 16th, 1934 to Dr Eric & Edith Tivy. He was commissioned in the British Army R.E.M.E. and was stationed in Kenya, East Africa. After leaving the military Peter rejoined Morris Motors where he had apprenticed prior to his commission in the army. Peter was an extraordinarily talented and independent minded man, with a wide range of interests over all kinds of activities. In 1963 he put his life on hold to embark on a lifelong dream as a crew member to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in search of warmer waters and climate onboard “Skywave” a 57’ yacht. This adventure took him through multiple islands of the Caribbean arriving in Nassau, Bahamas in 1964 where he was challenged to start a steel fabricating business. He invited the love of his life Joyce to join him in Nassau where they were married and raised their family of 3 children. In 1980 the adventurous side of him bought his family to New Smyrna Beach where he purchased the business Hall Machine Works. He and his wife Joyce worked the business until his retirement in 2015. Peter was a hardworking man who was loved and treasured by his family. Beside the feelings of sadness there are also feelings of great thankfulness, for having Peter at our side for many years. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Peter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Tivy, New Smyrna Beach FL; son George (Lisa) Tivy, Atlanta GA; daughter Sarah (Rodd) Litchfield, New Smyrna Beach FL; son James Tivy, Sanford FL. and 6 grandchildren Sarah, Michael, Emily, David, Eric and Rachel.
A memorial celebration of life is planned at Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday April 20th, 2021 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital @ www.donate.lovetotherescue.org.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear husband and father. So many memories our family had with your family over the years in Nassau. Be strong for each other and may God comfort you.

Peter was a hard worker and I was lucky to have been able to work with him until the shop closed, and he retired
I don’t think he ever retired! He had more drive than anyone I have ever known !
We are all saddened by his passing, but , Joyce, I am still there for you if you need me.
Tall in stature and strong in in character you have lived life honorably and you have left a legacy for your children to follow.
On a personal note I will always remember your classic mustache. It was unique. It defined you.
Rest In Peace Peter knowing that you lived life at its fullest and that you were loved.
Always remembered.
Amazing memories from both sides of pond from learning to swim in Nassau as child to coming to my wedding as adult Thanks for each and every one of them Love you all .
Massive hugs - Mary , Andy and family and Emma and Family
Nor finer bride by his side .
My husband Bruce and I shared friendship with the Tivy’s for probably two decades. Sad to see our dear sweet Peter leave us but I feel I can confidently say that his is off on a world walkabout with Lord only knows how many dogs at his side . Enjoy my friend . Enjoy
Years later we visited in Florida and I found that the years had not diminished this gentle giant. His love for his family was heartwarming and the joy with which he welcomed me all these years later still makes me tear up. You were one of life's true gems Peter, I feel so privileged to have known you. My love and prayers for you all. Rona xxx
