Obituary
Philip “Phil” Lee Fortin, 77, of Fort Myers, FL passed away in his home, encompassed by the love of his family, on June 9, 2024 after an incredibly brave battle with lung cancer.
The son of Richard and Annabelle (Hazelton) Fortin, he was born on September 23, 1946, in Ogdensburg, NY. He is survived by the love of his life, Lynn Greene Fortin, whom he would often wittingly introduce to others as his “girlfriend”: his children, Michelle “Shelly” (Fortin) Mollica of Wellesley, MA and Allyson “Ally” (Fortin) Logan of Sandy, OR; their spouses Jim Mollica and John Logan; five beloved grandchildren, Emma Logan, Jack Logan, Sofia Mollica, Ava Mollica and Jimmy Mollica; his brother Richard “Dick” Fortin, brother Allen Fortin, sister Susan Trezza; and many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. Phil was undoubtedly the patriarch of this large clan.
Phil and Lynn were college sweethearts who met at SUNY Albany and were married for nearly 55 years. Phil earned an undergraduate degree from Iona College and pursued an MBA at Pace University with a concentration in Financial Management. During his career in corporate tax he worked at General Foods and The Dow Chemical Company. Lynn and Phil raised their girls in New York and Connecticut until they relocated to Fort Myers, where they together enjoyed an active social life with many dear close friends for 22 years.
In retirement, Phil was an active volunteer. He was recently acknowledged by the Lee Health system for a remarkable 7,000 hours of service. He was a passionate member of the Lee Health Auxillary, an organization dedicated to raising and distributing funds to those in need within the healthcare system. He most recently served as Treasurer and previously held the position of President. He was also very active playing golf and up until his recent illness was going to the gym 5 days a week.
Phil was a self-proclaimed “family man and friend to many” with a unique ability to connect with others. He leaves behind a profound impact on his family, many friends and even casual acquaintances who were touched by his kindness and humor.
At Phil’s request, no service will be held but we invite you to celebrate his memory and know he is with you in spirit. A celebration of life will be held at Lexington Country Club in late October. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Phil’s memory to be directed to Hope Hospice, 9740 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908. We are grateful to Hope Hospice for providing incredible support and comfort to us all during this most difficult journey.
