Obituary
Phillip H. Richards, 81, of Port Orange passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Phil, as he was known by his many lifelong friends, was a native of Syracuse, NY where he had a long and dedicated career in banking. Prior to his retirement he was the Assistant Vice President of OnBank. He is remembered fondly by his professional colleagues as well as the Clients he served over the course of his 32 years with the bank.
Phil, and his wife Carol, began spending winters in Florida in 1991, and eventually settled in the community of Port Orange in 1995. Their Florida home became the family winter vacation destination while they continued to spend the summer months in upstate New York, building many happy memories camping with family and friends.
Phil valued service and community in his life. He was a member of the Rotary in Syracuse, Cicero Methodist Church, and Pastime Athletic Club. He was a coach and served as treasurer on both little league and softball associations. Phil also spent many years serving as Treasurer of the Tanglewood Association where he and Carol have been active members of their community and known for hosting the most memorable parties in the park.
While Phil was dedicated to his family, friends, and serving his community, he and Carol were also avid travelers, touring the world on more than 70 cruises. Phil was at his happiest sitting on the balcony of a cruise ship with Carol watching the ocean as they traveled from one port to another.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Evelyn Richards, siblings, Claude Richards, Jr., Fred Richards, Roberta Thompson and Beverly Lewis.
Phil will be remembered as the beloved patriarch of his family. He was role model for his children and grandchildren to work hard, put family first and appreciate all that life had to offer all of which he did in his life.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his devoted wife of 60 years, Carol, children, Debra (Scott) Hayden, Phillip (Debra) Richards, Mark (Billie Jo) Richards, Barbara (Rocco) Busco, Ronald Richards, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. They will faithfully cheer in his honor for Syracuse basketball and football (Go Cuse!) and professional golf.
Memorials in his name may be made toKindred Hospice, 1717 North Clyde Morris Blvd, Suite 130, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
His family will celebrate his life with a service on Tuesday, January 15 at 11 am at the Port Orange Eagles, Aerie 4089, 5130 S Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange, FL 32127.
