R. Gale Rhodes Jr. of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Rumson, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, Florida on January 8, 2010, at 78 years old. Born March 13, 1931 in Lorenzo, Texas to R. Gale and Mae Rhodes. He was a 1949 graduate of Borger High School in Texas with the highest of honors. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree from Texas Tech University in 1954, he then served in the United States Army until 1956 as a 1st Lt, he then attended George Washington University Law School and graduated Chicago Kent College of Law 1960, again with the highest of honors. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar Association 1961; 1965 New York; 1968 New Jersey; registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. New Jersey State Bar member 1968 to present and Chairman, 1979 to 1980 and Federal Chairman NJ Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition Committee 1975 to 1976. His areas of practice both domestically and internationally were Intellectual Property; Patent Law; Trademark Law and Copyright Law.
After decades of decorated private practice in New York and New Jersey he finished is remaining professional legal career Of Counsel at Moser IP Law Group, Shrewsbury, New Jersey which he enjoyed immensely. Throughout his life he was deeply devoted to his family and friends for which we are forever grateful. His unselfish and caring manner touched all walks of life in countless ways. His strength, fortitude, vision and style forever changed and enhanced all those who were fortunate to have known him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years Judith, a son Paul (Victoria) Rhodes; a son James (Patricia) Rhodes; a daughter Lynn (Justin) Moss; a brother James Weldon Rhodes; grandchildren Erica Lynn Rhodes and Nicholas Anthony Rhodes; step-grandchildren Frank Scura, Daniel Moss and Caitlin Moss.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbrair Trial, Port Orange 32129.
