Obituary
Rabun Hood Dittmar, Jr. 96, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed from this life on June 19, 2021. Ray was born on October 14, 1924, in Harrisonburg, Virginia to the late Rabun Hood Dittmar, Sr and Grace Amanda Dittmar (nee Harris). Ray was preceded in death by his parents Rabun and Grace Dittmar, his first wife, Iris McDavid Dittmar and his second wife, Rebecca H. Klick. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Post Dittmar, his son, Rabun Hood Dittmar, III, his grandchildren, Michelle Guerrero(Jose), Desarae Wyant(Ryan) and Merrianne Dittmar, 5 great-grandchildren, Chloe Bernardin, Jordan Wyant, Rylee Wyant, Benjamin Guerrero, Noah Guerrero. Ray is also survived by his step-son, Donald Post, his step-grandchildren, Christina Post and Jonathan Post and his step-great-granddaughter, Kylie. He took one angel and gave me another.
Ray grew up in Harrisonburg, Virginia, while he was in college he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he obtained his degree in accounting. He would spend his career as a Certified Public Accountant, but he was also a proud member of the United States Army Reserves ultimately retiring at the rank of Colonel. In his free time, Ray was an avid Karaoke Singer. He belonged to many organizations throughout the Daytona Beach area, including, MOAA (Military Officers of America, V.F.W., The Eagles, The Elks, The Rotary, and The American Legion and anytime there was a party or gathering for these organizations, Ray was singing Karaoke. Ray was very active in his church, First Baptist Church of Harbor Oaks, where he was a greeter and a soloist.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday June 24, 2021, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM & 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, located at 620 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, Florida 32127. The service to celebrate Ray’s life is scheduled for 9:00 AM Friday June 25, 2021, at Baldwin Brothers with Pastor Mike Swingle presiding. Ray will be laid to rest with his first wife at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 2:00 PM on Friday June 25, 2021.
