Obituary
Rachel Elizabeth Randall Cottle fought a hard three-year battle with breast cancer. Her determination, courage, faith, and love for her family saw her through. On May 11, 2023, she finished her work on earth, to undoubtedly do great things on the other side. Oh, how she will be missed. She was a precious, determined embodiment of fluff and sparkle not to be underestimated.
Rachel was born to Kelly and Debbi Randall on August 8, 1978, in Logan, UT, the second of six Randall kids. She developed a very close relationship with her siblings and parents, and her family grew to include many, many others over the years. In fact, everyone who ever met Rachel loved her and she loved them back. She was a loyal friend, hard worker, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she was an extraordinary daughter, wife, and mother.
Her talent for playing piano blossomed early, and she often shared her gift with others. One of her last service projects was providing music at the services of a Presbyterian congregation in the Orlando area. Though she did not share their faith, they became family too.
In her own congregation, through the years she served in Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women callings, growing as she served, and helping others to do the same.
Rachel was selfless. Her greatest act in this regard was placing her first child Breanna, with Jeromy and Camie Smith when she knew she was not yet ready to be the mother that Breanna needed. The connection between the Smiths and Randalls was immediate and has blessed both families immeasurably.
She was the best sister and friend. She was always up for a game of catch, a Target run, a late night chat, a Disney day, or a cut and color in her kitchen. She had an instinctive sense of style for everything from clothes, to shoes, to home decor. During her cancer treatments, she rocked the most amazing wigs.
She attended beauty school and enjoyed a short career as an official hair stylist—traveling to NYC to work in a high-profile salon where she shampooed the rich and famous. She continued to bless many of us with this talent even as she switched careers to the business world. During her working years, she held positions at Sorenson Communications, Accelis, and Hire-Vu, to name a few. She eventually earned a business degree from the University of Phoenix, though not long after, her life took a surprising turn.
While visiting her sister at Disney World, she met Brad Cottle and sparks flew between them. They were married July 29, 2011, in the Salt Lake Temple. The sparks grew into an eternal flame, especially as Brad unselfishly cared for Rachel through the last stage of her illness in their Florida home.
Rachel and Brad’s two little boys, Devin James and David Bryce, became their greatest joy. Rachel loved playing piano while they sang songs of the gospel, teaching them to pray and to read, and making sure they had fun. They shared silly jokes, snuggle nights, and so much love. Rachel was there to support them in all of their endeavors. She was their biggest cheerleader, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Cancer will not be the end of Rachel’s story because the blessing of a forever family will keep this love alive. Rachel is survived by her sweet husband and boys, her birth-daughter Breanna (Cristian) Smith Dorrett, her parents, and her siblings: Tricia (Derek) Norton, David Randall, Nick (Drea) Randall, Brian (Bryn) Randall, and Emily (Soren) Barker, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Cottle parents, Dean and Jean, and by Brad’s siblings: Ken, Justin, and Tiffany.
