Obituary

MCCONNELL, Ray Leo, 83, of Orlando FL, passed away peacefully on September 27th 2017. He was born on June 24th 1934 in Abington VA, son of Peter Sterling and Edna McConnell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Bobby Sue; his brother Spero McConnell; his daughter Katherine E. Cintron and husband Ivan A.; and, his grandson Ian A. Cintron. Ray attended William King High School in Abington, VA where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army during 1954 to 1956 and received an Honorable Discharge. Ray attended Orlando Junior College 1956 to 1958 and then received and B. S. Degree in Liberal Arts from Florida State University in 1960. He retired in 1992 as an Executive Vice President after a 32 year career with Equifax Inc.  Ray thoroughly enjoyed living at the lake-house in Gainesville, GA and cherished visiting his second home at his hometown in VA.  He loved traveling, fishing with his friend Randy Wewers, cooking for his family and friends, and treasured making paper planes and playing with his grandson. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21st, 2:30 to 4 PM, at the Winter Park Wedding Chapel in the First Congregational Church at 225 S Interlachen Ave Winter Park, FL 32789.  The Inurnment will immediately follow at the Palm Cemetery at 301 W Webster Ave Winter Park, FL 32789. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charity (https://www.dav.org/).
