Obituary

Ray “R.D.” DeMont McGregor III, 67, formerly of Middlesboro, passed away peacefully in his home in Florida, surrounded by his wife and children after a short battle with cancer. R.D. was born in Zanesville, Ohio October 8, 1952 and lived in Ohio until 1979 when he moved to Middlesboro to open Cumberland Gap Provisions with his father and sister. The 29 years he spent working there were some of his proudest. Anyone who knew R.D. knew he was an avid fan of Ohio State sports, and the Cincinnati Reds. He attended the Red’s season opener for 25 consecutive years.

R.D. is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie, his children Amanda Cejka (Brian) of Dallas, Texas, Jason Miller (Amy) of Fostoria, Ohio, Mykel Resino (Frank) of San Diego, California, and Abby McGregor of Boston, Massachusetts and his 8 grandchildren. He’s also survived by his father and sister, Ray McGregor and Christy McGregor Maiden (Anthony) of Middlesboro. He is preceded in death by his mother Rosemary Woodward McGregor, his brother Matthew McGregor, and his son Shawn McGregor.

A private memorial for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation at cornerstonehospice.org, via phone 352-742-6819 or with checks made payable to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, Florida 32778.

R.I.P. R.D. I will always remember you as one of the best friends a guy could have growing up. Your house was the go to house in the neighborhood and you had the biggest and friendliest dog “Ginger” I had ever seen. I know that you are being remembered fondly in this sad time. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for allowing me to reconnect with you and Debbie. You were a true friend.

We have met a lot of people in or lives, many have come and gone over the years, but never have we felt so connected to all the McGregor's from the first time we met. We were so looking forward to spending more time together now that we were all going to be so close again in Florida. Laughing and crying thinking about the first night we met him at Reloaded, when we asked about the picture of RD's Ohio State Bar. Will miss the friendship and the laughter.
