Obituary

Captain Reinier "Ray" Van den Heuvel, a veteran of the Royal Dutch Air Force, and a seasoned airline pilot, departed on his last flight on July 2nd to rejoin his beloved wife Antoinette, who preceded him in death some seven months ago.   Ray was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and after surviving the horrors of World War II emigrated to Indonesia, from where he moved to Australia before finally settling in Switzerland for many years. Some 30 years ago Ray moved his family to America and following retirement has made New Smyrna Beach his home for the past 20 years. Throughout his professional career, and in retirement, Ray's kindness, his compassion, his sense of humor earned him the love and respect of all he met. Ray was and remains the perfect gentleman.   Ray is survived by his son Hans, his daughter-in-law Susan, his grandchildren Gabriella, Justin and Ashley and great granddaughter Makenna and many, many friends. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.   Life Celebration will be 3:00 PM Thursday, July 7th at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach.   Memorial donations are requested to Hospice of Volusia 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32119.

    Pat F. says:
I am so sorry for your loss. May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Please allow God's Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.
