Raymond G. Gress Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 14, 2024, at the age of 69. Born in Buffalo, NY, on October 28, 1954, Ray led a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
Ray served honorably as a Marine and enjoyed a long and fulfilling marriage of 49 years. He retired from the Town of Grand Island after a dedicated 39-year career and worked for Koester Associates for 20 years. Known for his passion for boating, camping, and spending quality time with his family, Ray’s interests brought him joy and strengthened his bonds with loved ones.
A man of deep faith and strong convictions, Ray volunteered with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 20 years, serving as Commodore for the 9th District. His volunteer work extended to Grand Island Meals on Wheels and Niagara Hospice Camp Hope, reflecting his commitment to helping others. A true patriot, Ray was dedicated to his family, gentle with those around him, and loyal to his friends. He was known for his courage and strong moral character.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Chris Gress, and his daughters: Christie (Gary) Lesser and Reneé (Michael) Driskel. He was a proud grandfather to Brent, Raelyn, and Raymond. Ray is also survived by his brother, John (Carla) Gress, and sister, Cindy (Bob) Remmy, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan and Raymond Gress Sr., and Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Ray’s life will be celebrated in a service where his family and friends will gather to honor his memory, his service, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors project.

Ray’s legacy of service, love, and dedication will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched
