Obituary
Raymond Michael Lopez (Mike), passed away suddenly in the hospital on October 01, 2024. Mike was born on August 30, 1951 in the Bronx, NY to Louis and Elsie Lopez. He graduated high school in New York and later became a Housing Officer, where you could find him walking “the Bronx beat” nightly. He often visited Florida where he met Virginia Lopez and her daughter Josette LaCorte. Mike immediately fell in love with both of them and they moved back to New York together where he later married Virginia in 1977. They later relocated to Orlando, Florida, purchased their first home and he adopted Josette and she officially became his daughter. He began working for Circus World as a Senior Security Officer and simultaneously owned his own Private Investigation business. Later, he became an armed Federal Officer for the Kennedy Space Center where he retired 34 years later.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia Lopez; his loving daughter, Josette Lopez-Shipman; his grandchildren, Michael and Lauren Shipman; sister, Johanna Tirado; brother – in -laws, Matthew Sisko and Ronald Sisko; sister-in-law, Donna Sisko; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Elsie and Louis Lopez; brother, Louis Lopez; and nephews, Paul Tirado and Christopher Lopez.
Over the years Mike received several awards for his services as an officer at the Kennedy Space Center. He also voluntarily served on the Honor Guard for Last Call Services.
Mike was a very social man, always made people laugh and loved sharing stories from his past. He loved going to casinos with his wife and together they often vacationed in Biloxi, MS. He loved gun shows, collecting guns, shooting on weekends with his loved ones and friends, teaching gun safety, hunting, fixing things around the house, helping others with work projects, collecting law enforcement and space memorabilia, camping, fishing, being at the beach, attending NY Yankee baseball games but most of all spending time with his family.
Raymond will be remembered as a generous man who always gave of himself to others without asking anything in return. He will always and forever hold a special place in the hearts of his loved ones and friends.
