Raymond “Ray” Douglas Michaels, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving children and cherished wife. He was 78 years old.
Ray was born on August 25, 1942 in Easton, PA to Paul and Esther Michaels. In 1963 he married Joanne Rotondo, the love of his life, and then proudly began serving in the US Air Force. After retiring from a successful career in management, he and his wife were blessed to be able to travel to almost 100 countries.
Ray was a tough guy, but that tough guy loved his family and would do anything for them. He raised his children to put family before everything else. Even after he was no longer able to communicate, his hospice nurses loved him because they saw him through the family that he and Joanne raised. They saw the loving family that is always there for each other, to do whatever is needed at a moment’s notice.
He spent his final weeks enjoying his family, listening to music, making us laugh, and creating grocery lists and menus for family meals — some of his favorite things. Ray will be remembered for his pride in his family, his love for God, his love of motorcycles, his compassionate heart, his “larger than life” personality, and his sense of humor.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Ray Michaels, Jr. and his wife, Tami, Michelle Dalzell and her husband, Dave, Tim Michaels, and Suzanne Roberts and her husband, Joe; his grandchildren, Amy Michaels, Christopher Michaels, Melissa Michaels, Meghan Michaels, Bradi Roberts, Trevor Laisch, Hobie Roberts, Payton Dalzell, Bryce Dalzell, and Brielle Michaels; his brothers, Paul “Larry” Michaels and his wife, Connie, and Carlton “Tinny” Michaels and his wife, Pat.
Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Vitas Healthcare for their loving care and support during his final days.
