Obituary

Reginald Turner Priest (Reggie, Reg, Preacher, Dad, PopPop), went to be with the Lord at the age of 84 on March 31, 2024, in Ormond Beach, FL after a long battle with Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease.

Reggie was born on March 23, 1940, in Williston, FL, the son of the late Rosa Mae Priest and Ferney Willis Priest.

Reggie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years – Cheryl Diane Priest, daughter – Mary Lynn Mortimer (Michael), son – Reggie Allen Priest, daughter – Heather Leanne Priest, and grandchildren Kourtney Lynn Priest, Katelyn Cheryl Barker (Caleb), Colby Allen Priest, Kolten Michael Mortimer, and Kearsten Grace Mortimer. Reggie had one great grandchild – Avery Quinn Barker.

Reggie is also survived by one sister, Patsy Fugate, one brother, Hallie Priest (Karen), and brothers-in law Buddy McKenzie (Dawn) and Rusty McKenzie (Theresa). He leaves cousins and many nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Danny Priest and Eddie Priest, as well as his sister, Barbara Weeks.

Reggie graduated from Williston High School and then served in the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division. He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation before earning his land surveying certificate, eventually owning and operating Priest Land Surveying. He served as President of Florida Society of Professional Land Surveyors for several years.

Reggie never met a stranger; he was larger than life. His greatest joy was always his family, and he especially loved his grandchildren. He always had a picture or video to share with anyone who would give him a moment. And if that didn’t break the ice, Reggie knew the power of a good joke and always had one or two to share. Reggie was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. One of his favorite events was the Catfish Festival in Crescent City, FL where he was a swamp cabbage cutter. The Rotary Club in Crescent City awarded Reggie the ‘Paul Harris Fellow’ award because of his substantial and exemplary community service. He was so proud of that award that he continued to wear his medal of recognition to the Rotary Club meetings in Williston, FL.

Reggie loved his Florida Gators and was a devotee of all things blue and orange… as we pay tribute to him, please join us in a strong, hearty “Go Gators!”.

The family would like to thank Ofelia Long (VA CNA) for her many hours spent with Reggie, and Halifax Hospital Hospice care team for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Halifax Hospital Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church of Williston, 213 W Noble Ave, Williston, FL 32696 on April 13, 2024, at 11:00am with lunch to follow.
