Obituary

Renée Marie (Agar) Aikin, 88 years old of Winter Park, FL, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from Alzheimer’s disease.  Renée was born in 1927 on a farm in Oakham, MA, the third of four children of Donald Clifton Agar and Anna Zoe Jacob (Clement) Agar.  She is survived by her 94 year old sister Yvonne Bowker, and was predeceased by siblings Arlette Bessie (Elizabeth) Drake, and Gerald Clifton Agar.  Renee attended Massachusetts General Hospital nursing school in Boston where she met Don Paul Aikin on a blind date.  They married at the farm in Oakham after they both graduated– Don from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a chemical engineering degree and Renee with her nursing degree. They lived in Louisiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, and ultimately Ohio.  After Don passed away in May 1979, Renee relocated to Florida and volunteered at Lucerne Hospital, Leu Gardens, and the First Unitarian Church of Orlando.  She also loved traveling, not only touring Europe, Australia, Egypt, and China, but biking in Holland, and hiking Machu Piccu, Peru and the Galapagos Islands.  She is survived by her three children, Wendy L. Aikin (Orlando), Craig J. Aikin (Denver), and Andrea R. Aikin (Denver), and her four grandchildren, Ross C. Aikin (Navy Petty Officer Second Class-Mediterranean) Kyle L. Aikin (Manassas, VA), Max T. Pivonka (Denver) and Jace D. Pivonka (Denver).  The family plans a private service in the fall. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the First Unitarian Church of Orlando (1901 East Robinson Street, Orlando, FL 32803).
