Obituary
Rex Robert Magnuson, 58, of Eustis, Florida passed away on January 23, 2023. Rex was born on July 28, 1964 in Jamestown, New York.
Rex graduated from Southwestern Central School in 1982. He continued his education at Jamestown Community College and graduated with an Associate in Science degree in 2000. He then pursued his nursing degree at Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, School of Practical Nursing and earned his LPN. He was currently attending Taylor College, Bellevue, Florida in the RN Bridge Program.
Rex is survived by his mother, Yvonne Magnuson Garback, his step-father, Frank Garback, 2 younger brothers, Benjamin (Wife: Kristy) and Todd (Wife: Sarah) Garback. He is also survived by 4 nephews, Robert, Brandon, Westley and Gabriel; 3 nieces Lillian, Amelia and Cordelia; a great niece, Aubreella and a great nephew Killian.
Rex was a great conservationist with the Audubon Society of Jamestown, New York and more recently was supporting the 4 Ocean foundation in Florida to help sea turtles. He enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews about hatchlings.
Rex began as a house painter always reading books to improve his skills. He then joined Quality Market Warehouse, which he enjoyed tremendously. He wanted to help other people so he returned to school and completed his LPN degree. He began working for the resource center and then became a Home Health nurse so he could devote his time to care for his aging grandmother, Claribel Magnuson. After her death, he decided he wanted to be closer to his mother, father, and brothers. He began working as a nurse in rehabilitation centers, the latest being Lady Lake Specialty Care. He was known to call his female residents “sweetheart” which always brought a smile to their faces.
A celebration of life will be held at the Eustis Church of the Nazarene, 480 County Road 44, Eustis, Florida 32726 on February 4, 2023 at 11 am. There will be a luncheon to follow provided by the church. There will also be a service in Jamestown, New York for his family and friends in the middle on March 18. This service will be announced in the Post Journal. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Audubon Community Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Rd.
