Obituary

Rheta Myers Bunnell, age 87, peacefully stepped into eternity with her Savior Jesus on June 22, 2021. Born February 11, 1934 to the late Hunter and Helen Myers. Growing up in Columbus, MS, she attended Lee High School and Mississippi University for Women. She graduated from “The W” in 1956 with a BS in Office Administration. Upon graduation, Rheta moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the US Navy Department located in the Pentagon. Although she was extremely proud of her accomplishment, she chose instead her greatest desire in life to be a mother and homemaker. She married and settled in Lakeland, FL where she raised her four children. After her children were grown, Rheta remarried and enjoyed traveling. She eventually settled again in New Orleans, LA for 16 years and spent the last 2 ½ years in Orlando, FL.

Rheta enjoyed gardening, reading, dancing, socializing, movies, and keeping up with current events. She was humble and sensitive, and always taught us not to judge others. She loved her family, loved her friends, and loved to laugh.

Rheta is survived by her four children, Michele Dowdle (Frank) of Clewiston, FL, Marcia Hall (Randy) of Orlando, FL, Monica Winn (Louis) of Metairie, LA, and Thomas McNaughton Jr. (Lisa) of Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Katie, David, Heather, Rachel, Allyssa, Austin, and Hunter; and her four great-grandchildren, Clara, Haley, Elijah, Duke, and one on the way.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her former husband and father of her children, Dr. Thomas M. McNaughton Sr.

Rheta will be laid to rest in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS with her parents.
