Obituary
Richard Guilkey, 90, of North Fort Myers, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born November 10, 1927 in Youngstown, OH to Lorin and Mildred (Neuman) Guilkey.
Richard joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served his country honorably for three years. During his various tours of duty, Richard served in the Pacific on a destroyer and tanker vessels. In 1949 he married Laverna Kelly and had two children, Richard L. Guilkey, and Elizabeth Boruch. Following her passing in 1984, he married Janice Hanners on July 19, 1986 and gained two more children; Dennis (Debra) Hanners, and Deborah (Gordon) Buckner. Professionally, Richard was a carpet layer, he retired from General Motors as a welder in 1989. In 1997 he became a member of First United Methodist Church, Cape Coral, and after vacationing and “snowbirding” in Florida he became a fulltime resident in 2001.
He is survived by loving wife of 32 years, Janice E. Guilkey; 4 children; 8 grandchildren; as well as 11 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church; 4118 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, Fl 33904.
