Obituary
Richard Dean Reimer, (Rick, Swede) 75 years old went home to be with the Lord at noon on July 12, 2024. He passed away peacefully while on vacation in Zephryhills, Florida. He passed away after a long struggle with a newly identified disease called VEXAS that invaded his body for 5 years.
Rick was born to Walter and Lorraine Bloese Reimer in Woodstock, Ill. He lived in Illinois until he graduated from Crystal Lake High School, Crystal Lake, Ill. Rick entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at Elmendorf Airforce Base for 8 years. During that time, he met and married Linda Carawan. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 6 days before his death. Rick and Linda lived in Chugiak for 7 years and then Wasilla, Alaska for the next 43 years. Rick was a wonderful softball player, at one time playing for 3 teams at a time. He was known as Swede by his softball friends, and as the ball player who did not wear socks! He eventually had the privilege of playing on a team with his oldest son Brian. Rick also loved to hunt and fish. He served faithfully at his churches and was a quiet servant to many. He worked in retail and was known for his customer service and sense of humor at O’Reilly’s in Wasilla, and Fred Meyers in Palmer and Wasilla (people loved his fried chicken!). Rick loved playing with his children and grandchildren, always teasing and keeping them on their toes. If a baby was near, he wanted that baby in his arms to love.
Richard Reimer was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lorraine Reimer, an infant brother, and miscarried children. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Carawan Reimer, his devoted children, Brian Reimer, Kimberly (David) Garrison, Breanna (Scott) Olson, Kathryn (Brad) Hale, Keyvin (Amanda) Reimer and Bryce (Sabra) Reimer ; cherished grandchildren, James and Payton Garrison, Dominick and Ariel Olson, Jacey and Kayden Crockett, Rylynn and Ember Hale, Raina Reimer and Holten Reimer. He also is survived by his brothers, Roger Reimer (Carmen) and Larry Reimer (Cheryl) and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service for Rick will be held on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 2 pm at Settlers Bay Community Church, 6865 W Dewlap Cir off Knik Goose Bay Road, Wasilla, Alaska. A reception will follow.
