Obituary
Richard Ross Hansen “Dick” passed away on Jan. 17, 2024 in Sarasota Florida. He was born on August 24, 1936 in Seatle Washington to the late Lester and Jeanne Hansen. Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Francine Yaker Hansen; his children Randall Hansen (Shannon), Richard (Rick) R. Hansen, Jr. (Carol), LeAnn Derby (Dan), Jennifer Kaiser (Dave); 10 grandchildren, 3 greatgrandchildren; his sisters Arlyn Skarich (George), Leslie Nordee, Marylou Goodwin (Bill), and sisters-in-law Lynda Yaker and Manya Pomerantz (Jake). Following high school, Richard served 4 years in the US Air Force, then earned his degree in Mathematics from Central Washington University. Dick spent his career in Technology Management with IBM. He started in Idaho, followed by assignments in Tacoma Washington, Prinston, New Jersey, Houston Texas, Armonk, New York and in multiple locations around the Washington D.C. area. Retiring from IBM in 1992, he continued his career at Booz Allen Hamilton until 2001. Richard loved water sports, traveling, tinkering, and playing with his grandkids. He and his wife owned a cherished sailboat that they used to explore the entire Chesapeake Bay. They also rented sailboats to sail most of the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. They also travelled extensively through the US, Canada and Europe. Retiring led to a multi-year trip before settling in Colorado Springs in 2002, where he was near three of his grandsons. He volunteered his time to the city becoming the Chairman of the Planning Commission and as well as the chair of the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee. Richard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in Sarasota, Florida followed by a memorial service in Seattle, Washington on May 25.
