Obituary
Robert (Bob) Joe Anderst, age 90, of Palm Coast, FL, died on September 29, 2023. Bob, the son of William and Olga Anderst, was born on April 5, 1933, in Parkston, SD. During the depression, his family moved to a farm in Ozark, MO where he learned the value of hard work. Bob graduated from Plankinton High School, Plankinton, SD and completed several years of college at the School of Mines in Rapid City, SD. Bob was married to his high school sweetheart Helen (Holmes) Anderst in 1952 and they had three children: Charles, Michael, and Roberta (Robin).
Bob began his career in Rapid City, where he was employed by Dakota Steel, starting in the drafting department of the steel fabricating company and advancing to plant supervisor. He then became a partner in North Central Supply, a successful business selling wholesale building supplies. In the early 1970’s, he and his family moved to Minneapolis, MN and he worked for Warner Hardware as an architectural hardware consultant. He received recognition for his work and earned numerous awards throughout his career.
Bob enjoyed working with clients and helping them with their construction needs. He loved to travel with his wife and maintained a wide variety of friendships. Bob and Helen’s favorite forms of travel included exploring in their RV and cruising.
Bob will be specifically remembered for making people feel very special. He had a positive outlook on life and would do anything for his family. Those who knew him well could count on him as a loyal friend for life. He was an accomplished mentor and helped many people throughout the years.
Bob and Helen were married over 71 years. They grew up in the same neighborhood in Plankinton, SD, played together as children, dated in high school, and married when Bob was a freshman in college. When asked for a comment on achieving such a long-lasting marriage, Bob replied, “You gotta live a long time!” In addition to an obvious sense of humor, Bob mentioned things like tolerance and understanding. Helen emphasized the importance of settling disagreements promptly.
After his retirement, Bob and Helen moved to Lake City, FL to be closer to family. His final move took him to Palm Coast, FL where he and Helen enjoyed family, church, and convenient access to cruise ships. During the last few years of his life, he and Helen travelled with family to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Hawaii, the South Pacific, Israel, and the Panama Canal. His goal was to live life to the very last drop and he succeeded.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen, and two children: Chuck (Donna) Anderst of Naples, FL, and Drs.
