Obituary

Robert (Bob) Arthur Bishopp, 78, of Ormond Beach, Florida, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Bob passed peacefully at home with his best friend and loving partner, Wanda Kell, at his side.

Bob was born to Arthur and Norene (Bishopp) Mitchell on September 25th, 1942, in Oneida, New York. He grew up in Munnsville, New York and attended Stockbridge Valley Central School. He left high school in the 11th grade and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. Many years later, Bob completed his high school education through the G.E.D. program and graduated from Waynesboro (PA) Area Senior High School.

Bob spent 4 years in the Marine Corps, 1959-63, and was among the many Marines who were sent by President Kennedy in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was extremely proud of being a Marine and anyone who knew him also knew that. However, he was also very proud of his service as a police officer. Bob entered the Pennsylvania State Police where he earned his certification as a municipal police officer. He graduated in 1976 and began his policing career in Newville, PA. He eventually went to work as a Department of Defense police officer and retired as the Chief of Police at the Defense Distribution Depot – Susquehanna Pennsylvania.

There were several other affiliations and organizations in which Bob enjoyed membership. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4435, Ormond-by-the-Sea, FL., and belonged to American Legion Post #120, Holly Hill, FL. His desire to serve also led him to join the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department’s Citizens on Patrol program for several years. For relaxation, Bob enjoyed playing golf and listening to country music. His real passions were riding his Harley-Davidson and driving his Corvette.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving partner in life, Wanda Kell. He is survived by many family members that include his son (from a prior marriage to Carol Bishopp who currently resides in Rockwall, TX), Stephen A. Bishopp and his wife Jennifer Bishopp, of Rockwall, Texas. He has four grandchildren, Dannon (Bishopp) Garrett of Fate, TX; Lauren Elizabeth (Bishopp) Jordan of Greensboro, NC; Braden James Bishopp, Rylan Arthur Bishopp both of Rockwall, TX. Bob has one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Abigail Garrett (from Dannon and her husband, Marshall). Dannon is expecting a second child in January, and Lauren is expecting her first in September that will give Bob two more great-grandchildren. He was told about those forthcoming additions to his family just prior to his passing, he was extremely happy and proud to hear that news.

Bob is also survived by his sisters and their husbands, and by his brother and his wife. His sisters were, Maxine Howe who is married to Eddie, of Yulee, FL., and Kathleen Higginbotham married to Ron, of The Villages, FL. His brother, Otto Mitchell who is married to Diane reside in Munnsville, NY. Bob, also known as ‘Uncle Bobby’, was an uncle and great-uncle to vast number of loving family members.
