Obituary

Robert “Bob” Edward Butler, age 89, of Clearwater, Florida, (formerly of Buford, Georgia), passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his precious, loving wife, Carolyn Ayers Butler, his daughters, Linda Jobes (Mike Jobes), Diane Akins (Sid Akins), and Katherine “Kitty” Gray; grandchildren, Chris Jobes (Jenny Jobes), Michael Smith (Lindsey Smith), Crystal Shay (Marty Shay), Bobby Gray, and Jordan Gray; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Maddie, David, Jackson, and Lyla; sister, Barbara Parker, and niece, Debbie Barnes.

He was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 17, 1935.
Bob attended the University of Virginia, and served his country in the United States Army Reserve in the 80th Infantry Division, and was honorably discharged in October 1962.

He married his beautiful beautiful bride, Carolyn Ayers Butler, on October 13, 1956, and have been married for 68 years.

Bob had a career with the Federal Government working for General Services Administration, Atlanta, Georgia, until he retired. Post retirement he enjoyed working for In Touch Ministries.

He was a member of North Metro Baptist Church, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, until he and Carolyn relocated to Florida. He served as a Deacon, as well as a member of the choir.

Bob was passionate about his love for the Lord, and took every opportunity to share God’s love and plan for salvation with his family, friends, and everyone he met. He was truly a faithful servant, and a wonderful example of a true Christian, a loving and devoted husband, and father.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Metro Baptist Church Cancer Support Ministry, or the Gideon’s International.
