Obituary

Bob Briest, 1936-2020, 84 years of Life well Lived.

Bob was born in Minnesota where he met his lovely wife of 65 years, Darlene, and they began their adventure together. Bob spent 40 years with the JC Penney Company managing stores all over the Midwest. Bob and Darlene moved from town to town as they grew their family and their love story. They settled into The Villages in 1999. Bob and Darlene enjoyed their lives here as constant companions and the best of friends.

Bob enjoyed antiquing with Darlene and spent years traveling to antique shows. Bob spent many years with The Villages Community Improvement Council. He was an active and integral member of the Church Council at Hope Lutheran Church and has been part of their tremendous growth and success. He and Darlene spent many wonderful days exploring the Disney parks, finding rare Mickey & Minnie collectibles, and enjoying Disney Cruises. Bob enjoyed card playing, golf, and spending time with friends.

Anyone who knew Bob was inspired by is optimism in life and his infectious chuckle. Bob was a master at inviting people to join in the fun and always put everyone at ease with his magnetic positivity and charisma. He was abundantly generous to his family, friends, and neighbors.

In his last years Bob remained ever upbeat, graceful, and ready for new adventures even as he had become ill. He passed away gently just as he lived his life surrounded by family and faith.

His wife Darlene, his daughters and their partners, and all his grandchildren will miss his ever-present love and laughter. We will honor his life with our contribution to others.

The family will hold a private “Remembrance of Life” and any donations can be directed to Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages.

    Dear Darlene and family,
We are so very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We will remember Bob as the kind, caring and trusted friend he was to all. His cheerful disposition, even as he struggled with his health, never failed to brighten the day when we saw him. We will always remember Bob as “The Mayor of Tierra DelSol”.
We send our deepest sympathy and wish you peace and comfort from memories of the wonderful times you shared.
With heartfelt sympathy, Marv and Glenda Harrop
