Obituary

Robert Chenoweth Yates, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of New Boston, New Hampshire, passed away on, March 12, 2021. Born on March 26, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the late Jane C. (Chenoweth) and Jacques V. Yates, who passed away in 1998 and 1957, respectively.

Bob was raised in Newton, MA, in the Village of Auburndale, and was a graduate of the Huntington School for Boys in Boston MA, Class of 1960, which is now a part of the Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School, in Waltham, MA. He later received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine, Farmington in 1968.

Bob was married to Jane E. (Way) Yates, who passed away in August 19, 2020, for almost 47 years. Bob and Jane raised their family in Groton, MA before moving to New Boston, NH in 1988, and later retiring to Cape Coral, FL. Bob initially worked in sales for the Citgo Petroleum Corporation and the Gillette Company, before he and Jane purchased a Lil Peach franchise in Littleton, MA, and later a Montgomery Ward franchise in Fitchburg, MA, that they ran together for several years. In 1983, Bob made a career change and joined the IDS Financial as a Certified Financial Planner. Bob enjoyed a successful career with IDS until his retirement in 2005.

For years, Bob and Jane spent much of their summers in Wells Maine, their grandchildren often accompanying them. Drakes Island beach was special to them, and where they spent most of their time. They also enjoyed traveling, first while Bob was employed at IDS and won many annual trips, and later at their time-share in Mexico. Bob and Jane shared a love of animals, and over the years they adopted many dogs who truly became the center of their lives.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Laura S. Bernard, and her husband Glenn, of New Boston, NH, his daughter-in-law, Danielle Fleck of FL, his brother Lincoln E. Yates, and his wife Edith, of Hudson, MA, 6 grandchildren, Michael D. Cassavaugh, of Galveston, TX, Marissa D. Charest, of New Boston, NH, Matthew Tyson of SC, Kevin Yates, David Yates and Michelle Yates, all of Wisconsin. He is also survived by his 3 nephews, Robert Lincoln Yates of Berlin MA, John F. Yates and Christopher P. Yates, both of Hudson, MA. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was pre-deceased by his son L. Scott Yates, in 2006, and his stepfather Paul F. Duffy, in 1986.

There will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held later this year in Wells, Maine.
