Obituary
Robert E. Borstelmann, 87, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away on February 16, 2017, at the Halifax Hospice of Edgewater, after a long fight with Leukemia. Born at home, in Brooklyn, on July 16, 1929, to Ethel Munckenbeck Chapin and Joseph Borstelmann, he came to this area from North Babylon, NY, in the late 1980’s. He always said “New Smyrna Beach – welcome to Paradise!” Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Drafted only two weeks after his wedding, to his beautiful bride Grace Hengartner, they were happily married for 66 years. They never had a fight and were best of friends. A proud Banker for many years, he retired as Executive VP of Extebank, in Stonybrook, NY. He was a member of the Kiwanis, the Rotary and very active with the Boy Scouts of America. He loved traveling, camping, golf, board games and cards and lived life to the fullest, “Hookin’ Bull and Roll on 28!!” He was so very proud of his four children Jan, Steve, Gary and Jim and would brag about all of them to every doctor, nurse and medical technician! He doted on his darling granddaughters, Erin, Kerrigrace and Tara, “The Terrific Three”. He is also survived by son-in-laws Charlie McGoey and Michael Litchfield, daughter-in-law Terri Lauria, brother and sister-in laws Charles Hengartner and Alicia Hubbard, and nieces Mari and Nancy Borstelmann. A Mass and Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 4000 S. Atlantic Ave, New Smyrna Beach, on February 27, at 1 pm.
