Obituary

Robert E. McGinnis (Bob), 67, of N Ft. Myers, FL died peacefully at home Thursday, December 10, 2020, after a day filled with love and prayers from his family and friends. Bob was originally from Springfield, Ohio. He served as a plane captain aboard the USS KittyHawk CVA-63, during Vietnam. Following his military service, he served as a deputy sheriff in Clark County, Ohio.

Bob moved to Florida in 1983, where he worked at a Chevy dealership and Lee County Fleet Maintenance, fixing cars at home on the side. He then decided it was time to strike out on his own, opening Transmission Exchange which provided for his family for many years. He greatly enjoyed what he did until his health declined a few years ago, and he could no longer work.

Bob loved NASCAR and attended many races in Homestead and Daytona with his family. An experience he still talked about years and years later was when he did the Richard Petty Driving Experience, and got to drive a race car. He also loved watching football and baseball. He was involved in NFM Little League while his son and youngest daughter played baseball and softball. Bob was a long time member of Bayshore Community Chapel where he and his wife were married 31 years ago.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gladys McGinnis, brother, Carl McGinnis and sister, Mary McGinnis. He is survived by his wife Virginia (VL), daughter, Brandi Horvath (Jason), son, David McGinnis (Nicole), daughter Jennifer Zetts (Stephen), and grandchildren Branson, Jocelyn, and Zachary.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Bayshore Community Church on Samville Road in North Fort Myers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice of Lee County, Florida.

Family and friends may sign the guest register or leave a condolence message by visiting www.baldwincremation.com.
