Obituary

Robert E. Devine, 89, passed away at his home in Port Orange, FL on June 23, 2016. He was born in Washington, DC on January 26, 1927 and will be lovingly remembered by his many friends and relatives including his sons Robert E, Devine II and James R. Devine, and his sister, Ida Mae Talley.

Bob or “Buzzie” led a life of devoted service to his family, community and church. He served in the Army, earned degrees in library science and went on to a distinguished career at the Library of Congress and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as its Chief Information Officer. He was an accomplished athlete and musician. He loved bowling, surfing, skating and ice hockey. He met his wife of many years, Charlotte, while skating. They enjoyed music together when dancing and while Buzzie played piano in a band with Chuck Dutrow.

Throughout his life he faithfully served his community and church in the Washington, DC area and most recently in Port Orange, FL. He was a member of the Lions Club working for the Eye Bank. At POPC he worked on the Building and Grounds Committee, ushered and drove the pre-school bus. An advocate for those less fortunate, he participated in the Halifax Urban Ministries and Crop Walks.

He will always be remembered for his gentle humor and kind, loving eyes.

Memorial services will be held at Port Orange Presbyterian Church on July 13th at 11:00 AM. A second service is planned at St. Matthew Presbyterian Church, Silver Spring, MD.

Buzzie and I were members of the P.O. Lions Club. I believe he was one of the oldest members and I was certainly one of the youngest. He rarely missed a meeting and was always willing to participate in our events. He was a good Lion and a good man!
