Obituary
Robert George Engelbrecht, passed away November 10, 2019 in Ormond Beach, Florida. Born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. Graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in 1952, New York University with a B.S. and an M.B.A. 1956 / 1962; Financial Planning Certification in 1988. Married Sylvia Kirchhoff in August 1959, met in Humanities Class at N.Y.U. After a 31 year career, retired as Second V.P. with Chase Manhattan Bank, active in coordinating / developing training programs and marketing new business in midtown Manhattan bran h network; taught at American Institute of Banking in mid-sixties for five years, evenings. Established new staff-member training program for company visits to business customers and cold calls.
In 1972, began membership at New Dorp Moravian Church, served on both Elder & Trustee Boards; had usher and lector involvement, as at Bay Ridge Methodist Church in earlier years.
Enjoyed outdoors, particularly jogging, tennis, cycling and swimming in Ormond Beach, FL where winters were spent in recent years. Enjoyed trips to Bermuda, California, Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and the Canadian Rockies.
After retirement from Chase, resumed teaching for 14 years as an adjunct Professor of Banking & Finance at St John’s University and also at Wagner, S.U.N.Y. and Kean College, in New Jersey.
Member of AARP, Moose Club; former member of N/Y/ Rotary. Participated in St. Vincent’s Pax Christi Hospice fundraising since 1987.
Survived by son, Jeffery (estranged), daughter Nora McHale, 4 grandchildren: James and Jennifer McHale, and Kevin and Maribeth Engelbrecht, soon to be great grandchild McHale!
