Obituary

Robert “Bob”  L. Gibbs, age 81, of Christmas, FL went to rest in the Lord on Wednesday, April 18th.

He was born January 11, 1937 in Jamestown, NY, grew up in Celoron, NY, and resided in Stockton, NY before moving to Malabar, FL in 1994 and then to Christmas, FL.

Bob was the son of the late Dallas Richard Gibbs and late Maxine Cornish Gibbs. He married his lifelong friend, the late Dianna Spencer in 1959 with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage prior to her death.

A graduate of Southwestern High School, Bob worked for Stateside Motors of Jamestown prior to opening Gibbs Garage in Stockton, a repair and towing business. He and his wife owned and managed Ma’s and Pa’s Pub in Grant, FL for several years. More recently, he enjoyed employment at Carp Industries as a maintenance worker and marine mechanic, until he retired. After retirement, he helped on his daughter’s aquaponic farm in Christmas, FL creating new aquaponic systems.

Bob was a longtime member of the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife were members of a local CB club and donated many hours to assisting those in need in the area.He was known for his generosity and often helped those in need. Friends knew him as quiet, kind, and truly honest. He rescued many stranded motorists. Locals knew him as the person who was always there to help with repairs, farm machinery, and other needs.

Bob is survived by four children, Bobetta (Jr) Bailey, of Vero Beach, FL, Joetta Monn, of Jamestown, NY, Diane (Richard) Kann of Christmas, FL, and Robert (Candy) Gibbs of Malabar, FL, 16 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He also leaves his beloved dog, Mickey, a faithful companion for 11 years.

Bob was preceded in death by  a sister, Kathy Lynn Gibbs and by his beloved wife, Dianna.

Family was always the most important thing in Bob’s life and he will be dearly missed by all. He enjoyed informal family gatherings and spending time with family and close friends.
