Obituary

Robert “Bob” Glen Gibson was a devoted Husband, Father, Papaw, Son, Brother, and Friend. Sadly, he left this world suddenly on December 11, 2023 at age 70 to join his Heavenly Father. He was a wonderful man who loved his family and spread joy and laughter wherever he went. He was loved dearly by many and will be missed eternally.

He was predeceased by his Parents, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Slygh and Phillip “Phil” Slygh, and Grandparents, George and Florence Guge.

Robert is survived by his loving Wife, Kimberley, his adoring Daughters, Trish, Vanessa and Jessica, his beloved Grandchildren, Brittney, Maisie, Hunter, Jacob, Mackenzie, Nathaniel, Milo, Annabelle, Thomas, Vickie, Drogo, Declan, Lila, Dalton, Deisel, his devoted Sister, Deborah Payton, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends. His Memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Bob was born in 1953 in Madisonville, Kentucky and joined the United States Armed Forces in 1971, where he was awarded a National Service Medal and earned a Sharpshooter M16 Marksman Badge. After his time serving the Country, he met the love of his life, Kimberley Malady, and they married in 1990. Bob went on to further his civilian career as a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer working as an Engineer on various vessels. In 2002, he received a Letter of Commendation for Heroism in responding to the humanitarian needs of the citizens of New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He was a hero. Courage, Professionalism and Dedication are qualities Robert always portrayed. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his family above all else. He loved his wife dearly and he treasured his daughters and grandchildren. His family is deeply honored that he chose them to share his love and life with. He promoted respect, honesty, responsibility and commitment and he was always there for everyone that needed him. He was a rock to so many and he will be cherished for a lifetime.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends.

Robert will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family and friends.

I Heard Your Voice in The Wind Today

Author Unknown

I heard your voice in the wind today

and I turned to see your face;

The warmth of the wind caressed me

as I stood silently in place.

I felt your touch in the sun today

as its warmth filled the sky;

I closed my eyes for your embrace

and my spirit soared high.

I saw your eyes in the window pane

as I watched the falling rain;

It seemed as each raindrop fell

it quietly said your name.

I held you close in my heart today,

it made me feel complete;

You may have died…but you are not gone,

you will always be a part of me.

As long as the sun shines…

The wind blows…

The rain falls…

You will live on inside of me forever

For this is all my heart knows.
