Obituary

Robert “Bob” Howard Wheeler   5/14/1922-4/15/2017

Robert H.”Bob” Wheeler was born at home in Turner County, Georgia.  He was raised in the Ashburn, GA, area.  A WWII veteran, Bob served in the Navy from June, 1942 through October, 1945. He was a Radarman 2nd Class, serving both on ships and land.  He also taught Electronics and Radar for the Navy.  He was honorably discharged.

He married Edna T. (Terry) Botnen, and had two children, Sharon Anne Wheeler and Robert Howard Wheeler, Jr.  After divorcing, the children’s names were changed to Sharon Anne Dickerson and Robert Howard Dickerson.

Bob married Betty D Strock in 1953.  Bob adopted Betty’s children Vicki, Carolyn, and David.

Bob is survived by wife Betty, children Vicki Wheeler, Sharon Walker, and Robert “Bob” Dickerson (Sharrie), sister Eula Faye Henderson, brother Albert Wheeler, Grandchildren Darlene Richmond, Lori Larson, Dawn Tabor, Daniel Tabor, Aaron White, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their children.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents Pink Wheeler and Pearl (Wheeler, Tenant) Beasley, brothers Johnnie and Tasker “Tack”, sister Estelle, and children Carolyn and David Wheeler.

Bob loved “bird watching” and earned the nickname “Birdman Bob” among friends and family.  He was a member of the Orange Audubon Society for years.   He actively helped with banding birds, led “birding tours”, was a speaker at functions and in schools teaching others, and traveled the world adding to his “personal sighting list”.  He was never without his binoculars!

Family and friends are invited to gather for a “Celebration of Life” for Bob on May 20th at 2:00pm at the Oasis at Conway Gardens Church, 1900 Conway Gardens Rd., Orlando, FL.  Please RSVP to crafcomrno@gmail.com or 407-864-0433.
