Obituary

Robert (Bob) James Ori, of DeLand passed away on December 19, 2011 and has joined his loving wife in heaven.  Bob was born on April 25, 1921 in East Orange, NJ to Charles Ori and Ruth Ori Murphy.  He met his future wife, Marie, on a skating pond in Maplewood, NJ and they were married for 67 years.  With the announcement of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Bob enlisted in the Air Force and graduated from bombardier school with a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.  He joined a crew of 10 men on a B-24 bomber which led to a year of combat flying in New Guinea.  After 3 years, he was discharged as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve.  He was recalled to duty with the advent of the Korean War and continued his active flying duty.  Bob remained in the Air Force and retired after 23 years with the rank of Major.  He had many assignments in the fields of logistics, accounting and audits and lived abroad in England and Japan plus all over the U.S.  Bob and Marie and their three children moved to Orlando from Denver, Colorado in 1961; Bob and Marie lived in Titusville for many years and in Sebastian for over 20 years.  After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for McDonald Douglas Corporation. Bob then formed the R. J. Ori Company and provided accounting and tax services in the Titusville and Vero Beach / Sebastian areas for 30 years.  Bob is survived by his daughter, Carol Oravetz (Chuck) of Flagler Beach; son, Gregory Ori (Sue) of Orlando; son, Robert Ori Jr. (Susan) of Winter Springs; grandsons, Christopher Oravetz of Waynesville, MO; Casey Oravetz (Tabitha) of Ormond Beach; Michael Ori of Tampa; and Matthew Ori of Winter Springs; three great-grand children, Caitlyn, Ethan, and Ava Oravetz.  Donations can be made in Bob’s memory to The Cloisters, attention Marie Sabatini, 400 East Howry Avenue, DeLand, FL 32724 or VITAS Innovative Care, 2381 Mason Ave Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117
