Obituary
Robert Alan Olsen, 57, of Ft. Myers, FL passed away on November 16, 2018 at Lee Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 27, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY to Roy Arnold Olsen and Evelyn A. (Jacobsen) Olsen. Robert lived most of his life in Richmondtown in Staten Island, NY. Robert was a Merchant Marine while working as a Deck Hand on tug boats for various companies in NY Harbor. He was a 911 first responder during his tenure with the NYPD working as a Detective with various areas such as Street Crime, Major Case and the Harbor Unit. He retired in 2005 after 20 years of service with the NYPD. After his retirement he worked various security jobs in Fort Myers as well as being the Security Manager at Hertz Corporation Headquarters in Estero, FL. Robert was a member of the Nansen Lodge Sons of Norway, the Detective Endowment Association, and he enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was an avid sports fan of the NY Giants, NY Mets and NY Rangers. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Karen Olsen; his son, Ryan Olsen and his wife Melanie; his son, Rory Olsen and his husband Gary; his mother, Evelyn Olsen; and his sister, Barbara Benson. He was proceeded in death by his father, Roy Arnold Olsen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Robert to the NYPD Widows and Orphans Fund, or to the Nansen Lodge Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are in the care and trust of Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society, Ft. Myers, FL.
