Obituary

Dr. Robert Speir Cameron, Jr. (Bob), age 84, was called to be with the Lord January 4, 2017 in Port Orange Florida. He was born September 22, 1932 in Albany, NY.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Joyce M. Cameron and his loving son, Christopher Lloyd Cameron (wife Marty Peltier Cameron); daughter, Elisa Cameron Maxwell (husband Troy Maxwell); granddaughter, Kelly Joyce Cameron; brother, Jack Cameron (wife Patricia Cameron); as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He is predeceased by his brother Richard Cameron.

Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served his country in the Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Major. He graduated from The University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering and earned his Doctorate Degree in Education from Nova  University. After working with NASA and GE, he was the Director of Information Systems at Embry Riddle University, and later went on to develop the first Computer Science degree program for Daytona Beach Junior College (known now as Daytona State College). He was the sole representative for the State of Florida at the Artificial Intelligence Symposium at The George Washington University. He found true satisfaction in enhancing the lives of his students and all of those around him. Bob was very accomplished and had many honors throughout his lifetime, but he will be most remembered for his generous smile, genuine humble nature, and his love and faith in Jesus Christ.

Bob loved to travel with his wife, Joyce. They toured the United States in their motor coach and they traveled the world. He was an avid reader; he loved music and dancing; he enjoyed the outdoors, water sports, and tennis;  and he was committed to his community through scouting and other organizations over the years.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Monday January 16th at 1:30pm at Crossroads Church, 1851 S Clyde Morris Blvd, Daytona Beach, Fl 32119.  Memorial donations may be made by mail to Halifax Health Hospice, Fund Development,  3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange FL 32129 or online through the Halifax Health donation portal.
