Obituary

Robert Wickizer Bowles of Holmes Beach and Winter Park, died on Monday, November 17 at the age of 86. He was born to Dr. Ray McCune and Lucille Wickizer Bowles on October 21, 1928 in Brooklyn , New York. Bob grew up in Garden City, New York and graduated from Garden City High School in 1945. He attended Duke University where he was captain of the track team and received his degree in Engineering in 1949. Bob served as a Navy pilot during the Korean War. He worked in New York City for Bank Building Corporation and later for Citi corp. In 1975, he became Vice-President of Farmer's Bank in Wilmington, DE and later went on to develop golf course communities in South Florida. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid golfer, tennis player and competitive sailor. He won World Sunfish Championship at Shelly Bay, Bermuda in 1972. Bob and Ann Carter Smith, his wife of 47 years, were both sailing and tennis enthusiasts. In Winter Park, they were active members of All Saints Church and Healing Ministry. His oration of poetry and of his life's experiences always captivated those around him. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at All Saints Church , Lyman Ave., Winter Park Florida on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. He is survived by his daughter Alice (Amby) Murphy and husband Tim and their two children Morgan and James of North Wales, Pennsylvania; son Robert W. Jr. and wife Jessica and their daughters Amelia of Maitland, Florida; daughter Martha Pugh and husband Steven and their two children Carter and Hunter of Frederick, Maryland; son Benjamin T. II and his daughter Kathryn of Winter Park, Florida; brothers Dr. Richard M. and wife Josie of Shelby, North Carolina; and Dr. Lawrence T. and wife Judy of Chevy Chase, Maryland; sister Dr. Nancy L. of Shelby, North Carolina; and his companion since 2009, Irma L. Yatros, her son Dr. Gy Yatros and wife Maria and their son Nicholas. Memorial Service will be December 29, 2014 at 10:30 AM At All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 Lyman Avenue, Winter Park Florida, 32789
