Robert “Bob” Richards, 82, of Edgewater, Florida, passed away Wednesday, Oct 31, peacefully at his home.
Bob was born December 29, 1929 in Chardon Ohio to William and Rena Richards. He graduated from Chardon High School in 1947. After graduation he enlisted in the US ARMY where he received training as a radar technician in defense of our country. Upon honorable discharge from the military, Bob joined the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department in Chardon Ohio and then later API Instruments of Chesterland, OH as Sales/Production manager. In 1970, Bob and his family relocated to West Palm Beach Florida where he began a career as an entrepreneur. He served as Vice –Presidents of Florida Standards Labs in West Palm Beach FL, before founding Southern Instruments and Control Systems Inc. where he served as Owner/President until his retirement in 1997. He loved his work tremendously and had the opportunity to work with his children through his career. Bob was an avid golfer, fisherman, and extremely devoted family man. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, church involvement, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many years with wife Mary Richards who preceded him in death in 1989 and close companion Dixie Radonicich who passed away in 2004. Bob, over the past several years enjoyed his close and loving relationship with companion Nancy White of Edgewater, FL.
Bob is survived by his three children, Renee Ella Richards, Karen Mae Rossi both of Edgewater/New Smyrna Beach, son Bill Richards, who resides in Hoover AL, step son Joe Brown, Edgewater, FL and brother Paul Stephen Richards, Edgewater, FL. Bob has nine grandchildren, Dustin Stock, Ashley Rossi, Josh Rossi, Kristyn Richards, Nicholas Richards, Kathryn Richards, Eddie Brown, Tina Malloch, and Joseph Baker. He was preceded in death by his son William Scott Richards in 2004 and brother Howard Richards in 2003.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, November 7, at Edgewater Union Church 500 N. Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL. Reverend Ned Michael will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Edgewater Union Church or Hospice of Volusia, Edgewater in Bob’s name.
Life Celebration will be 4:00 PM Wednesday, November 7 at Union Church 300 South Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater FL.
