Robert A. Wieczorek
December 11, 1936 – October 27, 2018
Robert A. Wieczorek died, with his wife and family at his side, on Saturday, October 27, at 10:15pm at Halifax Health Hospice in Edgewater, Fl. Despite facing significant health challenges, Bob’s upbeat, determined attitude was an inspiration to his beloved wife, Barbara. His unique sense of humor and quick wit endeared him to family, friends, and caregivers alike. Bob’s distinct laugh will never be forgotten.
Bob was born to Alice and Henry Wieczorek on December 11,1936 in Winona, MN. He graduated from Cotter High School. Bob worked for the Chicago and North Western Railroad as a Switchman for 42 years. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for 7 ½ years. After marrying and raising families separately, high school sweethearts, Bob and Barbara, reconnected at the class reunion in 1989. They married in 1991 and lived in MN, WI, and happily settled in Florida.
Bob was an avid gardener who also enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, and loved spending time with family and friends. He was also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
In his retirement, he was a Bridge Tender on the North Causeway Bridge in New Smyrna Beach. Bob was a longtime member of St. Gerard’s Mission Catholic Church in Edgewater. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one son, two step-sons, and one granddaughter. Bob is survived by his wife of 28 years, Barbara, two brothers, four children, four step-children, and over thirty grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Gerard’s on Friday, November 2, at 11:00am. Gathering to follow at Hacienda del Rio clubhouse.
