Obituary
Roberta Lee Young best known as Birdie passed over to be with the Lord on January 18, 2018 at her home in Ocala, FL. due to complications from vascular dementia. At the time she passed she was surrounded by family and friends.
Birdie was born April 3, 1938 in Berryville, Virginia to Robert Lee and Bertha Virginia Racey. Her father was a musician and ran a Sinclair Gas Station. Although he passed away when she was only five years old, she always spoke of the love she had for him.
After her fathers death Birdie was separated from her mother while her mother traveled to work in packing houses. When Bertha remarried to Maltie Rose, Birdie was once again able to be with her mother and travel with them following the growing season in an Airstream trailer harvesting fruits and vegetables. She spoke fondly of those years and all the people she met along the way. She was happiest during that time when she was with her sister Janet Racey Lowe. Birdie graduated from South Dade High School in 1956.
Life took Birdie on many journeys. She lived in Alaska, Wyoming, Georgia, and Florida, but for her, the best journey was her marriage to William J Young. She married Bill in 1969, and knew she had found the love of her life. She had three children Karl, Tami, and Steven. She dedicated her life to the Lord, and she grew in beauty and kindness. She worked for Bill Young Refrigeration, volunteered managing a ministry bookstore, she served for Melody Christian Life Church, loved to go shopping with friends, always kept her house clean enough for company, and had food and coffee at the ready for whoever walked through her door. Her companionship and kind heart are the legacy she leaves with us.
She is survived by her loving and supportive husband Bill Young who kept her home with him and cared for her in a way that amazed us all. Thank you Dad for your strength and love.
She is also survived by her children Karl Kriser, Tami Kriser Martin and her husband Emil, Steve Young and his wife Vicki, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, her sister Janet Lowe, her niece Jeanne Cook, and her beloved dog Mitzy.
We are at peace to know that Birdie is in Heaven watching over us all, that she is reunited with her mother, and that her prayers have been answered.
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not be faint.“
