Obituary

Rocco Sarro, 99,  made his transition on April 18, 2019  in Lady Lakes, Florida. Rock was born and raised in Oyster Bay, NY, and lived at the Jersey Shore before moving to The Villages in Florida in 2016.  He courageously  served in the United States Army as a Medic during WWll, and spent time in both North Africa and Italy.  One of his proudest moments was attending the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2016 as a veteran. He owned the Sunset Meat Market in Oyster Bay, and Sunset Real Estate in Eatontown, NJ, among other endeavours, and worked well into his 80’s. Rocco was predeceased by his first wife Rosemarie McEwan Sarro, in 1992.  He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eugenie Davis Sarro, who was by his side as he passed. In their blended family they had 11 children: Stephanie McCarthy, Tina DeMottie, John Sarro, Eric Davis, Chris Davis, Cathi Brown, Joan Crowe, Karen Carr-Leto, Susan Wynings and all of their spouses, children and grandchildren.  He was predeceased by John Davis and Cory Sarro.  To his many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren he was affectionately known as “Pop Rock”,  and he will be missed by every one of them. He is also survived by his brothers Salvatore and Mariano, and his sister Lily, all on Long Island, NY.  His sisters Nonnie and Catherine, and brother Louis have passed. If you met him even once, or just heard some of the stories, you know that he was quite a character, and one of a kind.  His family is grateful to have had so much time with him, and to have such wonderful stories to share about “The Rock”. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to The Villages Honor Flight.
