Obituary

Roger Hutchins (Wishbone) 72 was born in Middlebury Vermont and raised on a dairy farm in Orwell. He was a hard worker and a gentle soul.

He was a graduate of UMASS Amherst and was always proud that he had taken classes with Julius Irving.

Roger owned Sam’s Liquor in Schenectady NY for several years and then Arnold Bakery in Rotterdam.

He moved to Ballston Spa, NY and became a long-haul trucker with HO Wolding and then NFI logistics.

He met the love of his life Ardella in 1995. They married in the Poconos beside a waterfall. Together they traveled domestically and internationally seeking out lighthouses seeing more than 200. They were avid cruisers.

Roger was a romantic that would often stop along the side of the road and bring home wildflowers.
Everyone was welcome in his world. A nonjudgmental man with patience and warm welcoming hugs. He made time for everyone in his world especially his nieces, nephews and his grandchildren.

His grandchildren were his world. Ricky, Aidan, Oliver and Sydney.
Roger was a friendly man with a smile that could start a conversation with anyone anywhere especially if it was about his New England Patriots, The Celtics or the Bruins….If they lost he would always say, “But the sun still comes up tomorrow.”

He enjoyed his Hershey milk chocolates, jigsaw puzzles, Danielle Steele books, playing cribbage, Texas hold’em and bingo.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dale and Anita Hutchins.

He leaves behind his loving wife Ardella (ne Baxter), his daughter Crystal (Rick) Recheizer. His step-children Kris Harrison(Kellie), Robb Harrison and Beth Harrison. His siblings Susan Garai , Rodney Hutchins, and Nancy Vandal as well as several nieces and nephews and many valued friends.

A November 20th memorial is planned for friends and family to drop in at the family home from 1-5 to remember this remarkable man and share memories.

This is so hard. I was 16 when you came into our lives. The love you had to give. The generosity you gave. You could tell it was meant to be. You two were perfect for each other. I never had to worry about my mom because you were there to take care of her and pamper her. I was so relieved that I didn’t have to rub her feet anymore. You loved to. Or at least you pretended to, lol. Holidays were always so much fun. Playing jokes on each other. Laughing and having wrapping paper wars. You always let me know when Wizard of Oz was on TV. No brain, No heart and No Balls! I will always remember this and think of you. Your contagious laugh. Oliver and Sydney miss you so much. I believe you may have left a penny for them. They found one heads up. They loved searching for eggs and coins with you. They enjoyed spending time and laying with you watching football and sports. They couldn’t wait to have sleepovers and putting together a puzzle with you. You of course would sneak them cookies and snacks. They really loved that too! You have made such a wonderful impact on them and everyone you met. I am going to miss coming over and you yelling at the tv with the game shows playing. You telling the contestants that they are idiots. “Take the money!” I have so many more memories that I will continue to keep and talk about. You meant the world to so many people. You have always been a good sport and a terrific happy person. You have made this world a wonderful place. It will not be the same. I don’t think I ever told you to your face. I should have. I love you, Roger. Thank you for being you and thank you for being my dad and a great grandfather to the kids.

Roger was one of the humblest man I knew. His love for Ardella so very obvious. You could tell by the way he looked at her. He had a great sense of humor. He will greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest In Peace. Prayers to Ardella and their family.
