Obituary

Roger L. May, 67, of Longwood died Sunday, December 11, 2011.  Roger was born October 16, 1944 in Pikeville, Kentucky.  He graduated from Pikeville High School, Class of 1962.  After graduation he joined the United States Navy and served his country for four years.  Roger had a love of railroads and soon after his discharge from the military he found a job with C & O Railroads.  He enjoyed working in his childhood dreams of railroads and worked his way up to Engineer.  Roger then had the opportunity to be his own boss and acquired Jiffy Dry Cleaning in Pikeville until his retirement in 2009.  At that time he and wife moved to Central Florida.  Roger always loved a good joke and was an avid Atlanta Braves and NASCAR fan.  He enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends and he could always be counted on for leading a hand when someone needed an extra one.  Roger was active in his community through Kiwanis and other community events.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pikeville, KY.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. and Authelia May, brother, Robert May; sister, Carolyn May and daughter, Wendy May.  He is survived by his loving wife 26 years, Marilyn; son, Roger, Jr. and his wife, Hilary of Hickory, NC; daughter, Tammy and her husband, Jimmy Dunn of Lexington, KY; two step-sons, Robert Venters and John and his wife, Tanya Venters; seven grandchildren, Mason Dunn, Graham Dunn, Ryan May, Ella May, Jonny (Vivienne) Venters, An’Marie (Tim) Russell and Robert Venters IV; two great grandchildren, Tanner Russell and Wyatt Venters; brother, Ronnie and his wife, Wanda May and Roger’s beloved dog, Gatsby.  A Life Celebration will be held 2:00PM, Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Winter Park Chapel, 301 W. New England Avenue, Winter Park.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Humane Society. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Humane Society.     To the May Family, I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. Roger was a special person and a friend to all. I never heard anyone say a bad thing about him. Marilyn, I am so glad you two found each other and had the years together that you did. I truly believe his love for you will go on.
