ROGER LANE HESTER JR.

September 23, 1931 to January 16, 2019

Roger Lane Hester Jr., 87, passed away Wednesday January 16, 2019 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida surrounded by his loving family. Born September 23, 1931 in Durham, NC he was the son of the late Roger Lane Hester Sr. and Blannie Davis Hester.

Roger served in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina.  He began his career working at the Beacon Blanket Company in Swannanoa, NC before beginning a career with Knight-Ridder at the Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, North Carolina; The Tallahassee Democrat in Tallahassee, Florida and after many years of service he retired from the Lexington Herald Leader in Lexington, Kentucky, where he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  Upon retirement, Roger and his wife moved to Cape Coral, Florida to be closer to their grandchildren and became members of Cape Baptist Church.

He is survived by Doris Lewis Hester, his wife of 57 years; his daughter Alicia Hester of Louisville, KY; his sons Lewis and his wife, Victoria, of Cape Coral, FL and Tony and his wife, Colleen, of Louisville, KY; his five grandchildren, Abby, Adam, McKinley, Patrick and Reid, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by; his sister Kathy Johnson of High Point, NC and his brother Larry Hester, of Myrtle Beach, SC.

The family has chosen cremation with interment at the VA Cemetery located in Sarasota, Florida.  At this time services have not been confirmed.
