Obituary

Roger Steven Richards passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday, August 30th, 2009, in Edgewater, Florida.  He was 61.    Roger was born in Chardon, Ohio, and graduated from Chardon High School in 1965.  He attended Kent State University but moved to Florida and obtained his B.S. in Aeronautical Science with pilot certificates and  ratings from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  He worked at Eastern Air Lines in Miami, Boston and Daytona in management roles before buying a welding shop in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  Roger was a great problem solver, and he could design and build just about anything.  One of his favorite projects was converting VW Beetles into Bajas and Sandrails, and he never missed an opportunity to tell a joke.   Roger was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jason and Marybeth Richards of Freehold, New Jersey; by his mother, Clara Jean (Hartman) Richards and father, Paul Richards; sisters Lynda Richards, Bonnie (Jim) Brainard, Debbie (Dave Rennie) Richards, Annette (Jeff) Polson, and Paula (Hans) Geiss, a special uncle, Bob Richards, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.          In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice in Roger's name.  1:00PM at Edgewater Union Church 500 S. Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater, FL 32132 on September 20, 2009 (map/driving directions)
