Obituary
Ronald David Slimak, age 84, of Orlando, Fla. died Sunday, January 8, 2017, at his home. Born on December 13, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., son of the late Elias Alexander Slimak and the late Agnes (Chimko) Slimak.
David is survived by beloved wife, Jane (Castrignano) Slimak, of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Cheryl LeDuc and husband Ron of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Karen Blihar, of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Susan Custred of Eldersburg, Md.; and son David Slimak and wife Dawn of Orlando, Fla. He also leaves behind grandchildren Brandice, Alicia and husband Patrick, Nicholas and wife Megan, Zachary, Levi, Gabriela, Bianca, Ronnie and Logan. Preceded in death is his sister Zena Delores Lisowski.
David was an Eagle Boy Scout and wrestler at E. L. Meyers High School, where he won states and graduated in 1950. He joined the U. S. Navy, was stationed on a destroyer during the Korean War for four years and received honorable discharge in 1954. He attended Wilkes College and Penn State University for civil engineering. He worked for Air Products and Chemicals for 20 years, which gave him the opportunity to travel and live all over the country. He returned to his hometown, Wilkes-Barre, where he opened his own business David’s Furniture Manufacturing and later retired in Orlando, Fla.
David enjoyed fishing, hunting, football and the love of golf. He and his wife traveled to Penn State games and tailgated with friends. He was a member and president of Ponce Country Club in Puerto Rico, member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., member and president of the Ventura Country Club in Orlando, Fla., and president of the HOA board at Ventura in Orlando, Fla. He deeply cared about people and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of everyone he met.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20th, at 2:00 at Saint Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 4301 S. Chickasaw Trail, Orlando, FL. 32829. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Cape Canaveral Memorial Cemetery.
