Obituary
Ronald Joseph Bayma, known to many as “Ron,” passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on March 22, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, Ron lived a life defined by love, service, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Ron was immensely proud of his nearly 60 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Gladys. A dedicated and hardworking man, he served in the U.S. Army for two years before committing 30 years of service to the City of Detroit. Beyond his career, his greatest accomplishment was raising two wonderful children alongside Gladys, instilling in them the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance.
A man of many passions, Ron found great joy in hunting, fishing, and serving as a Boy Scout leader in the 1970s and 80s. Ron was also an avid photographer, never without his camera, always capturing the world around him. Whether he was documenting family adventures, nature’s beauty, or special moments with loved ones, his photos were a reflection of his love for life and his keen eye for the extraordinary in the everyday.
In 1997, he and Gladys embraced a well-earned retirement in Florida, where they cherished traveling and making memories together. Later in life, he also developed a love for staying connected through phone and video calls, ensuring he was always present for those he loved.
Ron will be remembered for his incredibly kind heart and his selfless nature. He was always willing to help others, never hesitating to lend a hand to those in need. His devotion to Gladys was unmatched, especially in 2008 when he became her primary caregiver after she suffered a stroke—a true testament to the depth of his love and commitment.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Bayma; his daughter, Stephanie Bayma; and his son, Todd Bayma. He also leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family members who will miss his warmth and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Anna Bayma; his mother and father-in-law, Steven and Lena Pachmayer; his brother-in-law, Steve Pachmayer; and his niece, Karrie Pachmayer.
At this time, no immediate service is planned, but the family is exploring a virtual gathering later this spring to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan or the National Kidney Foundation in his honor.
Ron’s legacy of kindness, dedication, love, and a deep appreciation for life’s moments will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
