Obituary

Ronald Bedell Seavey, 77, of Punta Gorda, FL, previously of Brooklyn, NY was the son of Harry and Ethel (Dennen) Seavey. He was the beloved husband of 17 years to Monica (Lynch) Seavey .  He passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 after a brief illness.

Ron was born March 13, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY where he lived and worked except for his 4 years in the Navy while serving as a radarman aboard the USS Frank Knox, a destroyer, and the USS Galveston, a cruiser, in Vietnam from 1964-1968. Ron attended Brooklyn Technical High School initially and then Hyde Park High School just outside Boston, MA where he graduated in 1961.

He worked several jobs after high school beginning with working at a bank, then sold bicycle parts and accessories in NJ, drove limousines, drove Transit Authority buses in Brooklyn, and later made bus dispatcher in Brooklyn where he retired in 2005 at the #4 position at his depot.  Ron was most proud of winning a court case against the Transit Authority when they refused to hire him on the grounds he wore glasses even though he had passed the necessary tests.  After winning the case, Ron was hired by the Transit Authority where he worked for nearly 30 years.

Ron loved anything and everything about nature.  Whether it was catching snakes and frogs or watching alligators and birds at the Peace River.  Ron had enjoyed metal detecting while living in NY, but once he retired so did the metal detector!  His passion while living in Florida was as an avid fossil hunter, mostly in the Peace River, at the boat ramp area in Arcadia.  He was so proud of his shark tooth collection of 109,315 teeth that he personally found!  He was a member of the Southwest Florida Fossil Society, Manasota Fossil Club, the Fossil Club of Lee County, and the Gulf Coast Mineral, Fossil and Gem Club in Venice.

Ron is related to the German composer, Richard Wagner through his maternal grandmother Josephine Wagner Dennen.

Ron is survived by his son, Jordan Seavey of Brooklyn, NY; step-son Ryan Miller (Stephanie) of Colorado; step-daughter Kirsten Tallman (Christopher) of Delaware, 3 step-grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Seavey of Illinois;  and 6 nieces and nephews and their families.  He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Seavey, and brother, Burton Seavey, and a nephew.

Ron will be cremated and a private memorial will be held.
