Obituary
Rose Mary Cohick passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2022 to spend eternity with the love of her life Ronald Cohick whom passed away 3 months earlier on March 11, 2022. Her life began September 14, 1937 in Rochester NY, born to her parents Gerald and Ruth Smith. Life brought many challenges along the way especially with the loss of her mother when Rose was only 10 years old. She began taking care of her younger siblings, 2 brothers Ray and Bob and baby sister Carol, until children’s services came in and placed the children into foster care. After traveling around foster homes she recalled the Wright family taking good care of her and raising her through graduation at Nazareth Academy class of 1956.
She married John Allyn soon after graduating and they had 5 children Kathleen (Kathy), James(Jim), Ruth, Robert (Bob) and Richard(Rick). Sadly John was shot in an accidental hunting accident which left Rose alone to take care of their 5 children. She met Ronald Cohick at a Parents without Partners outing when dad asked her for help with his bowling style Quite the move as dad was a great bowler and even bowled a 300 at least once that I’m aware of and several high 200 games. They married June 18, 1977 and 2 years later Ron’s children Todd, Mike and Charlene moved in with them. She became my friend in adulthood and I feel truly blessed to have become her daughter. Dad and mom truly loved each other, and it was a blessing to see their love for each other especially in their last few years together.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Ruth Smith, her brothers Bob and Ray and her son Robert (2019) and her beloved “KC” kitty. She is survived by her sister Carol, brother-in-law Roger and her children Kathy, Jim, Ruth, Rick and her step-children Todd, Mike and Charlene.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of Hospice of Marion County for the care given to mom in her last days. Blessed to have been able to keep my promise to dad to take care of mom at home thanks to Michael being able to stay with her and becoming her caregiver. Mom was ready to be with dad and knew she was headed home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her final resting place is at Bushnell National Cemetery placed with dad.
