DRAKE Holly Hill, FL. Roy J. Drake, passed away Friday, December 30th at the age of 90 years old. Roy Drake is survived by his two sons, Chris M. Drake and Mark R. Drake, their wives Shirley and Audrey. Also his grandson, Austin Drake. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie who passed away on May 10, 2016. Roy was born in Jacksonville, Alabama, he moved to Atlanta Georgia as a child. After the Navy he worked as an electrician with his father in- law, he then became a car inspector for the railroad. In 1955, he moved the family to Holly Hill, Florida and became a butcher for the A&P grocery stores which he did until his retirement in 1998. His loves were his children, horses, dancing, racing pigeons, and any good movie. His military career lasted five years during WWII. During his time he worked on mine sweepers in both theaters of the war. Ranging from Africa, to Sicily, to France where he received the Legion of Merit from the French Government. He then spent time in the orient from Japan, Okinawa and Hawaii. He was in the Navy from 1943 to 1948. He was a loving father and will be missed for his wit, humor and love for his family. Instead of flowers donations to the local Hospice in the area would be appreciated.
