Obituary
Roy Petty, 79 of Venice FL passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Dec 25 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Doris Petty and his beloved grandson Justin Eric Simmons.
Roy is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 58 years, daughters Kristie Simmons (Ron) and Kim Petty all of Botetourt County, Son-in-law Jason Bramlett. Grandchildren Taylor Carlson (Noah), Connor Bramlett, Josh Simmons and Jeremy Simmons. Also survived by sisters Nancy Simmons (Richard), Sarah Rawlings (Glenn) and Ruth Bush (Ed), brother Charlie Petty (Pam) and brother-in-law Gene Simmons (Phyllis).
Roy graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1962 where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball and where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. It was also there he found the love of his life, Phyllis. Roy graduated from VPI, now Virginia Tech.
Roy’s main focus was family and hard work the majority of his life. His entrepreneurial spirit lead him down many new business paths. Never one to sit still for long, his hard work enabled him to enjoy golf, hunting and fishing. His most prized possession was his “hunting camp”. He loved spending time in the mountains hunting and watching deer and turkey.
In his latter years he resided in FL. He continued to live an active life until the debilitating disease of dementia stole everything he loved. He will be greatly missed, and we are comforted by our confidence that he now resides in Heaven.
No service will be scheduled immediately. A private ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.
Ron & I are so sorry to hear about Roy! He was a delightful man who loved family & friends.
We,too, have experienced that terrible disease in our family & know he is happy & free with the angels. Prayers to you.

God saw you were tired
When a cure was not to be
So He wrapped his arms around you
and whispered "come to me"
You didn't deserve what you went through
So He gave you rest
God's garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
And When I saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again
How blessed to have been married for 58 years.
We lift your family in our prayers at this time.
Sending a hug,
John and Nancy Creedon
