Obituary

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Roy Allen Steffen.

With his wife Linda (née Pabst) of over 55 years, daughters, Sherri and Christine, son-in-law Mark and grandsons Vincent and Steffen at his side, survived by grandson Zachary, Roy passed away at the age of 79 from Bone Cancer on Sunday, February 5, 2023, under Hospice care in Marion County, Florida.

Growing up on Cleveland’s far southwest side, Roy met Linda Pabst while in high school, and not long after graduating from Medina High School they were married. The Vietnam War was on and Roy was soon drafted into the U.S. Army. Returning home after his tour ended, Roy enrolled in Cleveland State University’s Fenn College of Engineering using the G.I. Bill and working his way through college. Roy worked for various chemical companies on Cleveland’s east side including the Lubrizol Corporation. His success there took him to a number of states including Illinois, Connecticut, and Texas. Roy prided his project work on being on time and within budget. At that point in his career, virtually every household in the U.S. used some type of product related to parts of his work in the chemical industry.

In 2010, Roy and Linda retired to the SummerGlen Community in Ocala, Florida where they enjoyed many things retirement had to offer. Roy and Linda loved to travel and went on numerous cruises over the years. Roy immediately began playing and managing his Senior League Softball Team. Also an avid bridge player, Roy began playing with the SummerGlen bridge club, eventually becoming the Club President and teaching classes. In between his numerous softball and bridge activities, he occasionally chased a little white ball around SummerGlen’s golf course.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Service at 5:00 pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Forest Hill Church 3031 Monticello Blvd. Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118.

Another great guy has left this world. Maybe he left too soon but his pain and suffering have ended. Having met Roy because of our daughters friendship we easily became friends. We lost touch after he and Linda moved away but I never forgot my friend. I wish his family peace and comfort from the memories of a life well lived. Rest in peace Roy.
